Shiro Abhyanga - Indian head massage

Ayurveda considers the human body as an inverted tree. Just like roots nurture and control well being of the tree, our head controls the well being of our body. Just as we need to keep the roots healthy to keep the tree healthy, we need to keep our head healthy to keep our body healthy.

Traditional Indian head massage (shiro abhyanga) is an ancient therapeutic practice that has been used in India for over 5000 years.

It is understood to improve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It works on the subtle energy matrix (the prana or life force), by balancing chakras, nadi (prana vessels), and the marma points (the nadi junction). It soothes the sinuses, refreshes tired eyes, is great for headaches & migraines, stimulates lymphatic drainage around the face, head and neck, and helps with stress and sleep! It is performed while seated and through light clothing and oil is applied to the hair for a wonderfully conditioning treatment.

You can enjoy this 30min treatment on its own, or add a traditional Indian foot and/or hand massage.

Ayurvedic hand massage is a therapeutic and relaxing practice for pain relief and relaxation. Marma point stimulation intensifies the healing process and can improve inflammatory disorders such as arthritis, rheumatism, painful joints and repetitive strain injury (RSI) when performed regularly and impacts not just the hand but the arm, shoulder and neck as well. It is also given to assist during times of grieving or depression as it is incredibly calming to the nervous system.
